WeRide Launches Dongguan's First Commercial Unmanned Sanitation Project, Covering Over 270 Standard Football Fields Daily

Dongguan, July 2024 — WeRide, a global leader in autonomous driving technology, announced the official launch of an intelligent sanitation project for municipal roads in DONGGUAN BINHAIWAN BAY AREA. This project indicates the inaugural demonstration of "autonomous driving + new energy" mechanized unmanned intelligent sanitation and marks Dongguan's first commercial deployment of L4-level Robosweepers on open roads. It is the global debut of the WeRide Robosweeper S1 in a large-scale application, representing a significant milestone in our journey.

The Dongguan Binhaiwan unmanned intelligent sanitation project covers nine urban roads with complex conditions. The unmanned sanitation fleet, consisting of the Robosweeper S6 and the Robosweeper S1, will perform unmanned sanitation operations on key routes such as Binhaiwan Avenue (from Donghai Road to Xinyi section), Dongwan Avenue (from Fuhai Road to Donghai Road section), Zhenhai Road, Xinghai Road, and Zhonghai Road. The operation covers various scenarios including motorways, non-motorized lanes, sidewalks, safety islands, and bridge surfaces, with a service area exceeding 860,000 square meters. （The WeRide's Robosweeper is operating on Binhaiwan Avenue）

As a distinctive cooperation platform in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, DONGGUAN BINHAIWAN BAY AREA focuses on strategic emerging industries such as the digital economy and new energy. In 2023, it successfully gained approval as Dongguan's pilot zone for intelligent connected vehicle road testing and demonstration applications. Currently, over 25 kilometers of intelligent roads have been built, paving the way for the rapid integration and large-scale commercial application of autonomous driving technology.

The arrival of WeRide's Robosweeper fleet injects strong momentum into Dongguan's pioneering "Binhaiwan Experience." Equipped with WeRide's independently developed autonomous driving hardware and software systems, the Robosweeper S6 is China's first pre-installed mass-produced unmanned sanitation vehicle that can provide high-quality, efficient services such as sweeping, dust suppression, and washing.
