On May 15, the global leading automobile manufacturer Renault Group officially announced its future autonomous driving strategy, with WeRide deeply involved in its exploration of low-carbon public transit. The two parties will collaborate to launch an autonomous shuttle service during the 2024 French Open (May 26 to June 9), shuttling between event venues and parking lots.

The cutting-edge intelligent-driving solution developed by Lenovo Vehicle Computing and WeRide is based on Lenovo’s recently unveiled autonomous driving domain controller, AD1, built on the NVIDIA DRIVE Thor platform featuring the new Blackwell architecture designed for transformer and generative AI workloads. The system is trained on NVIDIA’s state-of-the-art data center AI solutions.

The AD1 will be integrated into the WeRide One, a highly compatible autonomous driving solution platform, for use in a wide range of urban-centered target use cases. 

WeRide One consists of a full stack of industry-leading application software, a flexible set of hardware and a comprehensive infrastructure software platform. On March 5th, WeRide's self-developed autonomous driving middleware officially obtained the ISO 26262 ASIL-D functional safety product certification, awarded by the top international functional safety certification institution, exida. This signifies that WeRide's autonomous driving middleware has received international recognition in the construction of vehicle functional safety systems, paving the way for the company's autonomous driving technology to scale up and enter mass production.

Safety is of paramount importance in autonomous driving. Since its establishment, WeRide has always prioritized the safety requirements of its products, consistently aiming for automotive-grade safety standards. The autonomous driving middleware, serving as a "communication bridge" between the software and hardware layers, as well as upper-layer applications and the underlying system, not only manages, allocates, and schedules software and hardware resources but also involves the management of algorithms, subsystems, and functional modules. With high technical complexity and significant safety challenges, achieving functional safety is demanding.

The ISO 26262 ASIL-D functional safety certification project was conducted with the assistance of the top international functional safety certification institution, exida. During the collaboration, exida worked closely with WeRide to address the safety requirements of its self-developed autonomous driving middleware, including FMEA analysis, architecture design, coding implementation, and product testing. Eventually, after multiple rounds of software reviews, on-site audits, and expert evaluations, WeRide successfully obtained the ISO 26262 ASIL-D functional safety product certification.

On March 3rd, in response to the varied travel needs of visitors to the three major cultural buildings in the Beijing Urban Sub-center, Beijing initiated a trial operation of an autonomous loop shuttle service. WeRide was entrusted with the responsibility of executing this project. Passengers can enjoy free rides on WeRide Robobus, shuttling between the City Green Heart Forest Park, Haojiafu Subway Station, and the three major cultural buildings. This marks the first L4-level automatic driving minibus passenger shuttle service connecting urban scenic clusters with adjacent subway stations in Beijing, while it also represents the first integration of the city's major bus system with autonomous driving microcirculation minibusses, serving as a milestone in public transportation services.

The three major cultural buildings in Beijing's Urban Sub-center-the Beijing Art Center, Beijing City Library, and Beijing Grand Canal Museum-are large exhibition halls nestled within the City Green Heart Forest Park, serving as the "cultural granary," "forest library," and "canal boat" respectively. Currently, WeRide has deployed multiple mature and refined autonomous driving products in Beijing. From the end of 2023 to the beginning of 2024, WeRide Robotaxi successively obtained approval to conduct commercial pilot charging in urban scenes and passenger demonstration applications in high-speed scenes in Beijing. WeRide Robobus in Beijing: Pilots Opening of Autonomous Shuttle Service for Three Major Cultural Buildings

Recently, WeRide has obtained the pilot notification for a high-speed road passenger demonstration application in the Beijing high-level autonomous driving demonstration zone (hereinafter referred to as the "demonstration zone"). Its autonomous driving service vehicles (Robotaxis) have been authorized to conduct passenger demonstration activities between Beijing Daxing International Airport Terminal and the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area. This marks the first open-to-the-public high-speed road autonomous driving passenger demonstration activity in Beijing's road scenarios, as well as the first autonomous driving passenger shuttle activity in Beijing that spans from low-speed to high-speed, connecting the city with the airport.

Since obtaining the qualification for high-speed road testing in the demonstration zone on September 27, 2023, WeRide achieved the pilot stage of high-speed road passenger demonstration within just 4 months. This rapid progression sets an industry record for the industry's 'fastest removal of license plates,' fully demonstrating WeRide's profound technological accumulation.

After the high-speed self-driving shuttle service is open to the public, travelers and citizens can book a WeRide Robotaxi through the WeRide Go App, and choose to travel between nearly 300 pick-up and drop-off points in Beijing's Jingkai District and the Daxing Airport Terminal. The journey covers a number of urban and high-speed road scenes, including a high-speed scene of about 40 kilometers, in which the vehicle can automatically complete a series of actions such as circling ramps and passing through high-speed toll booths.

After the vehicle arrives at the designated pick-up point, passengers and city residents can unlock the doors using the WeRide Go App, take their seats, fasten their seatbelts, and upon pressing the 'Depart' button on the screen, and then enjoy comfortable, safe, and efficient autonomous driving travel services.

Authorized to launch a pilot program for integrated passenger demonstration applications connecting urban roads with highways means that the reliability of WeRide's autonomous driving technology in high-speed scenarios has been fully verified, and the company has taken a key step towards commercialized operation in high-speed scenarios. Prior to this, in November 2023, WeRide was approved to carry out purely unmanned Robotaxi commercial operation charges in Beijing, which has opened up the automatic driving business model for the net cab scenario and further enhanced the company's self-blood-supporting ability. WeRide Granted Permission to Conduct Demonstration of High-Speed Passenger Transport on Airport Expressways in Beijing

Recently, WeRide's autonomous sanitation vehicle (referred to as "WeRide Robosweeper") officially commenced operations in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone. It conducts in-depth sanitation cleaning services, covering key road sections in the core area, east area, and south area of the development zone. This marks Beijing's first commercialized sanitation project that integrates the "autonomous driving + new energy" mechanized operation mode with the traditional manual operation mode. It is also the first unmanned sanitation service in Beijing that operates day and night. The operational hours include daytime from 9:00 to 17:00 and nighttime from 0:00 to 7:00, avoiding daytime traffic peaks to enhance operational efficiency and complementing existing traditional sanitation operations.

Since September 2020, with the core in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone, Beijing has initiated the construction of the world's first comprehensive vehicle-road-cloud integrated high-level autonomous driving demonstration area. After three years of development, it has achieved full coverage of intelligent connected roads spanning 160 square kilometers and a dedicated smart city network. In July 2023, the "Beijing Intelligent Connected Vehicle Policy Pilot Zone Regulations for the Management of Intelligent Connected Sweeper Vehicles (Road Testing and Demonstration Applications)" (trial) was released. This is the first normative document in the country specifically addressing road testing and demonstration applications for intelligent connected sweepers on urban roads. WeRide at CES 2024: : Four Days of Extraordinary

Recently, the results of the first "2023 Forbes China Top30 Globalization Innovators Selection" were announced, and WeRide successfully made it into the list. As the sole representative from the self-driving industry on the list, WeRide stands out as the only technology company globally that holds self-driving licenses in China, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and Singapore simultaneously.

In 2021, WeRide officially initiated its first move into the Middle East market. In November of the same year, WeRide, in collaboration with partner Bayanat, launched Robotaxi services in the United Arab Emirates, providing a new travel experience for citizens of Abu Dhabi's Yas Island and Saadiyat Island. Over the next two years, they served more than 20,000 orders.

In March 2023, WeRide officially entered the China-UAE Industrial Capacity Cooperation Demonstration Park, established a local team, and accelerated the commercialization process. In July 2023, the Prime Minister of the UAE personally announced the approval of the first autonomous driving road test license and awarded it to WeRide. This is the first national-level autonomous driving road test license in the Middle East and globally, which allows WeRide to conduct road tests and operations of various autonomous vehicles on all public roads in the UAE.

In Saudi Arabia, WeRide also achieved remarkable results. In September 2022, WeRide participated in the 2022 GAIS Global Artificial Intelligence Summit held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, and announced a collaboration with the Saudi AI Company (SCAI) to deploy the first unmanned minibus demonstration route in Saudi Arabia. Three months later, in December 2022, WeRide signed a memorandum of understanding with Ajlan Bros Holdings Group to jointly promote the landing of autonomous driving in Saudi Arabia.
 
In October 2023, WeRide was invited to attend the 7th Future Investment Initiative Summit in Riyadh, providing the only dynamic demonstration of autonomous driving at the summit. They offered a 3-day VIP test ride service for Level 4 Robobus, hosting over a hundred important delegates.

While rapidly expanding in the Middle East market, WeRide is also actively opening doors in the Singapore market. In September 2022, the company registered a branch in Singapore. In March 2023, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong visited WeRide's Guangzhou office on the first day of his visit to China, experiencing the WeRide Robobus personally. This endorsement significantly bolstered WeRide's prospects for further expansion into the Singapore market.

In the frigid January weather at the Qinghai Agricultural and Forestry Livestock Commodity Trading Center in Haidong City, Qinghai Province, staff were busy packing boxes. Boxes of hand-pulled dried Tibetan yak meat, yak milk beads, barley cakes, and other characteristic agricultural and pastoral products were being packed and prepared for shipment. Within three days, these unique items with distinctive characteristics of Haidong will reach Wuxi, Jiangsu, where they will be available for purchase on the "Checheng Zhilian" applet. Additionally, some of these products will show on the WeRide Robobus for simultaneous display.

This "East-to-West Delivery" journey across the mountains and rivers of our homeland stemmed from the joint initiative of WeRide and Wuxi Checheng Zhilian Technology Co., Ltd. ("Checheng Zhilian") in launching the "Technology Assistance for Rural Revitalization" activity. Up to now, WeRide Robobus has accumulated nearly 50,000 passenger trips in Wuxi. Its extensive coverage and robust customer base have greatly enhanced the effectiveness of the "Technology Assistance for Rural Revitalization" activity. WeRide Robobus has evolved beyond a simple micro-circulation public transportation connection tool into a "kiosk" for poverty alleviation and rural assistance.

It is reported that WeRide and Checheng Zhilian have previously listed seven high-nutrition, helpful for increasing income in pastoral areas, characteristic agricultural and pastoral products such as hand-pulled dried Tibetan yak meat and yak milk beads.

The "Technology Assistance for Rural Revitalization" activity is an important act of goodwill by WeRide and Checheng Zhilian to practice "Technology Towards Goodness".
