RIYADH, Oct. 24-26 -- The seventh Future Investment Initiative (FII7) forum was held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, under the theme "The New Compass", bringing together more than 6,000 representatives from more than 90 countries and regions. WeRide was invited to attend this forum and performed dynamic demo runs of its L4 autonomous driving robobus, providing VIP test rides. As the only dynamic display of autonomous driving technology at FII7, WeRide's Robobus provided a three-day VIP trial rides at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center and received more than a hundred important passengers. This Robobus is the world's first purpose-built self-driving minibus for massive production, which pioneers a cockpit-less design and won the Red Dot Design Award and the 2023 Fortune China Best Design Award.

WeRide's Robobus has a 360-degree sensing capability with no blind spots, and has a 200-meter range of obstacle detection. With a top speed of 40km/h, this Robobus can operate on open roads all day and all night under all kinds of weather conditions.

During the forum, WeRide's founder and CEO Tony Han was invited to participate in a panel discussion titled Engineering The Wheels Of Tomorrow. He shared that the development of the autonomous driving industry requires cooperation in several aspects: cooperation among players both from upstream and downstream along the industry chain; cooperation among different countries and regions; cooperation on the experience sharing of production, commercialization, and policies & regulations making.

On July 3, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced via Twitter that the UAE has granted its first national license for self-driving vehicles to WeRide, which is the world's first national-level autonomous driving license. Prior to this, WeRide's Robotaxi had been operating in the UAE for nearly two years, serving nearly 20,000 customer orders. These have laid a solid foundation for WeRide's expansion in the Middle East market.

WeRide Named Top 10 to Fortune 2023 Change the World List

Recently, the Beijing Municipal High-Level Autonomous Driving Demonstration Area Office issued a notice regarding the autonomous driving testing roads and areas for high-speed ways to and back from the airport. WeRide became one of the pioneers to obtain the qualification for high-speed road testing within the demonstration area. During the 2023 World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference, Beijing launched its first autonomous shuttle service from Beijing Capital International Airport Terminal 3 to the new China International Exhibition Center. WeRide received approval to operate on the Capital Airport expressway, providing VIP shuttle services for event attendees, covering a round trip distance of over 17 kilometers. WeRide Granted the Approval for Autonomous Driving Testing on Airports' High-Speed Roads in Beijing

Beijing, June 30, 2023--WeRide officially obtained the permit to carry out “unmanned remote stage” demonstration application in the Beijing High-level Autonomous Driving Demonstration Zone (hereinafter referred to as the “demonstration zone”). Its Robotaxi can now conduct fully driverless operations in Beijing. 

In October 2022, WeRide acquired a road testing license for autonomous driving in the demonstration zone. Only 8 months later, WeRide moved into the new stage of fully driverless Robotaxi operation, setting a record in China’s autonomous driving industry.

Another major milestone! WeRide gets approval to operate fully driverless Robotaxi in Beijing 

Dubai, July 3rd, 2023 -- Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced via Twitter that the UAE has approved its first national license for self-driving vehicles on the country's roads, which was granted to WeRide, a leading L4 autonomous driving technology company. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the news on Twitter.



It is reported that Dubai aims to have 25% of its transportation achieved fully autonomous operation by 2030. His Highness Mohammed bin Rashid emphasized that the issuance of the self-driving license reflects a change in the country’s future mobility patterns.

Prior to receiving this national self-driving license, WeRide's Robotaxi had completed public testing and operations on certain roads in the UAE over a year. On June 29th, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) in Abu Dhabi announced that as part of the Eid al-Adha holiday services, visitors to Saadiyat Island and Yas Island in Abu Dhabi can experience free autonomous driving car services, including a model called "TXAI," which is launched in collaboration between WeRide and the locally listed company Bayanat.

UAE Grants First National License for Self-driving Cars to WeRide

Guangzhou, June 8, 2023 -- WeRide announced the official achievement of the ISO 26262:2018 Road Vehicle Functional Safety ASIL-D process certificate (hereinafter referred to as "ISO 26262"). The certificate was issued by the globally renowned certification body UL Solutions. This milestone follows WeRide's ISO/SAE 21434 Automotive Cybersecurity Process Certification in May, signifying international recognition for WeRide in both its automotive cybersecurity and the development of vehicle functional safety systems. This achievement is pivotal for the company's efforts in scaling up its mass production and application of autonomous driving technology.

The ISO 26262 standard is currently the globally recognized automotive functional safety process standard, covering the entire lifecycle, including functional safety management, concept phase development, system phase development, hardware phase development, software phase development, support processes, safety analysis, and product release. Through the guidance and application of standardized technical specifications, it aims to ensure that functional failures of safety-related electronic and electrical products do not pose a risk during driving, reducing traffic accidents caused by functional failures of electronic and electrical products.

After more than a year of project practice, WeRide has passed a series of rigorous audits and ultimately obtained the ISO 26262:2018 Road Vehicle Functional Safety ASIL-D Process Certificate issued by UL Solutions.

Currently, WeRide has conducted autonomous driving research, testing, and operations in over 26 cities globally. WeRide Awarded ISO/SAE 21434 Automotive Cybersecurity Process Certification

On March 27, Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his delegation arrived in Guangzhou at the start of their six-day visit to China. At their first stop, the delegation made a special visit to WeRide, a globally leading L4 autonomous driving company, and rode on WeRide's Robobuses. WeRide's founder and CEO Tony Han and his team warmly received the delegation. Tony introduced WeRide's development history, technological advantages, and international commercialization achievements.

Subsequently, during a tour of WeRide's R&D center, Tony Han introduced more WeRide's products, including robotaxi, robosweeper, and robovan, as well as the WeRide One autonomous driving technology platform. In September 2022, WeRide established a Singapore office. In November of the same year, WeRide signed a memorandum of cooperation with Strides, a subsidiary of SMRT, Singapore's largest public transportation operator. The two parties plan to start trial runs and commercial operation of autonomous vehicles in Singapore later this year. In terms of investment, SMRT and another well-known Singaporean investment institution, K3 Ventures, are strategic investors of WeRide, providing strong support for WeRide's development in Singapore and Southeast Asian markets.

Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong took a ride in WeRide's Robobus as his first stop in China

On February 21st, 2023, the first autonomous driving bus line in the Science City, jointly created by Huangpu District of Guangzhou City, Guangzhou Development Zone Transportation Investment Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Guangzhou Development Zone Transportation Investment Group), WeRide and other units, was officially opened. Representatives from the Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau of Huangpu District in Guangzhou (Construction and Transportation Bureau of Guangzhou Development Zone) and relevant units attended the opening ceremony.

The "New Infrastructure" project for intelligent transportation systems aimed at autonomous driving and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication is one of the most extensive and versatile intelligent transportation projects in China's intelligent connected vehicle industry. The launch of the autonomous driving convenience bus line represents an innovative attempt to integrate convenient transportation with intelligent transportation. The intelligent experience of human-machine interaction and vehicle-road coordination will provide passengers with a new mode of travel.

Line 1 of the autonomous driving convenience bus uses a dual-motor control architecture and a fully autonomous driving design without a steering wheel or driver's cab. With a top speed of 40 kilometers per hour and full support for V2X communication, it can operate 24/7 in urban open roads at Level 4 autonomous driving. This Chinese passenger vehicle model is the only one to have received the "Red Dot Award," and it is the world's first self-driving bus to have received the World Industrial Design Award.

In terms of innovation and application of intelligent connected vehicles, the Huangpu District and Guangzhou Development Zone have always been at the forefront of China's autonomous driving industry development. With the support of the Huangpu District and Guangzhou Development Zone governments at the end of 2019, WeRide  successfully launched the country's first autonomous driving taxi fleet in a first-tier city, and officially began operations in a 144.65 square kilometer area covering the core areas of Huangpu District and Guangzhou Development Zone's open urban roads, marking the commercial application of China's autonomous driving technology.

According to the head of the Guangzhou Development Zone Public Transport Station Company, a subsidiary of the Guangzhou Development Zone Transportation and Investment Group, five autonomous driving convenience buses will be put into service in the science city area for the first phase, with WeRide responsible for daily operations. Additional routes will be opened depending on the situation, focusing on subway, industrial park, and residential areas.

The launch of the Huangpu District's autonomous driving micro-circulation bus service will further accelerate the development of Huangpu District's intelligent transportation and promote the application and popularization of autonomous driving technology for intelligent connected vehicles. Through the cooperation of the Guangzhou Development Zone Transportation and Investment Group and WeRide, more citizens will be able to enjoy a better, safer, and cleaner future of travel.

Guangzhou Huangpu District Science City opens the first self-driving convenient bus line by WeRide's Mini Robobus

On January 19th, WeRide, a self-driving technology company, and Horizon Robotics, an intelligent driving computing solutions provider, signed a strategic cooperation memorandum of understanding. WeRide will use Horizon Robotics' Journey® 5 chip (referred to as the "Journey® 5 chip") development platform and the WeRide One software solution to develop L4-level autonomous driving solutions, including domain controllers, in-car operating systems, and intelligent driving software. The aim is to create globally leading domestically produced products that will help drive commercialization and large-scale deployment.

WeRide and Horizon Robotics signed a strategic cooperation memorandum of understanding

On January 18th, WeRide's Mini Robobus officially obtained the automatic driving road test license issued by the Beijing High-Level Autonomous Driving Demonstration Zone Office. According to the license, WeRide's Mini Robobus can conduct automatic driving on public roads within the entire area of the 60 square kilometer Beijing High-Level Autonomous Driving Demonstration Zone.

In response to the specific scenarios of autonomous driving minibuses, Beijing has defined the standards for unmanned shuttle buses for the first time and tailored relevant policies for them. Unlike retrofit models or minibuses with steering wheels, WeRide's Mini Robobus uses a front-mounted production model without a steering wheel, brake, or driver's cab, and has a fully redundant safety design. It is the world's first fully unmanned driving and large-scale mass-produced autonomous driving minibus. The landing of WeRide's Mini Robobus is also the first time that the Beijing High-Level Autonomous Driving Demonstration Zone has issued a testing license for unmanned shuttle buses, and the L4 level unmanned shuttle bus will legally drive on Beijing's roads for the first time.

WeRide's Mini Robobus uses pure electric power and can reach a maximum speed of 40 kilometers per hour, supporting V2X functions. It can be flexibly deployed in various open or closed traffic scenarios and can operate on urban open roads around the clock, providing users with convenient transportation services and representing a new way of urban travel.

Earlier, at the end of 2022, WeRide obtained two Beijing autonomous driving road test licenses in a row, officially launching the unmanned public road test of autonomous driving taxis. In 2023, WeRide's Mini Robobus quickly completed autonomous driving-related technical tests and obtained approval for landing following autonomous driving taxis. The dual landing of WeRide's Robotaxi and Mini Robo bus in Beijing means that WeRide's matrix product landing plan in Beijing is advancing rapidly, fully reflecting WeRide's strategic advantage of diversified layout of "one platform, three major scenarios, and five major products" for autonomous driving.

As of now, WeRide has landed Mini Robobuses in cities such as Guangzhou, Beijing, Shenzhen, Nanjing, Wuxi, Bo'ao, and Riyadh, providing local residents with new travel options.

WeRide's Mini Robobus officially obtained the automatic driving road test license in Beijing

On January 5, 2023, WeRide, a leading autonomous driving technology company, unveiled its latest generation of autonomous driving sensor suite, WeRide Sensor Suite 5.1 (WeRide SS 5.1), at the 2023 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, USA. WeRide SS 5.1 integrates a variety of sensors, including vehicle-grade high-resolution semi-solid-state lidars, side lidars, and high-precision cameras, to achieve 360-degree sensing with no blind spots within a straight line distance of 200 meters. This fully reflects WeRide's accumulated expertise in autonomous driving technology and product development capabilities.

WeRide SS 5.1 continues WeRide's distributed design philosophy for autonomous driving sensor suites, and further improves its modularity, compactness, and integration, tailored to meet the advanced autonomous driving demands of L3 for large-scale production. Through different configuration combinations, WeRide SS 5.1 can easily achieve different levels of autonomous driving perception capabilities, from L2 to L4, with flexible adaptation to various driving scenarios, greatly reducing subsequent adjustment and maintenance costs.

The WeRide SS 5.1 roof sensor module adopts a streamlined "wing" design, which significantly reduces the impact of wind resistance caused by the sensor module during driving, and is closer to the design concept of mass-produced vehicles, enhancing its unique appearance recognition.

Apart from a comprehensive upgrade of the sensor hardware module, WeRide SS 5.1 has also made significant improvements to its in-car visual interaction system. The automatic driving system's perception of the road environment is now fully upgraded and displayed on the in-car screen with a visual style that is more in line with popular cognitive habits. This allows passengers to have a clearer and more intuitive understanding of the current driving status of the autonomous vehicle, effectively enhancing the riding experience.
